What is disturbing about this is that the smartest men often don't reproduce. Isaac Newton, one of the smartest men ever, never married and never had children. Nicolaus Copernicus never married or had children. Adam Smith never married or had children.
Thomas Jefferson did, but only two of his children survived infancy. On the other hand, Erasmus Darwin had 14 children, and when his descendents intermarried with the Wedgwood family, they are still prominent even today. And I am not familiar with any of their descendents being politicians or murderers or thieves or anything bad.
I am reminded of the movie, Idiocracy.
I sometimes wonder what the world would be like if the smartest, most imaginative, most compassionate people had reproduced and populated the world. And the stupid and cruel had died out.
I'll say this: it would be a much better world.

Didn't Thomas Jefferson had a illegitimate child (or children) from Sally Hemmings?
It is unfortunate but the social selection of fertility is a very real thing. This post here has done a very good job of explaining how something like idiocracy is slowly becoming a reality.

t wasn't Thomas and Sally. That's an attempt by the haters to destroy him. The evidence is that it was his younger brother, who was his Roger Clinton or Billy Carter to Bill and Jimmy.
Idiocracy is a short term phenomena Bob.
Cities are anti-Darwinian devices. To wit - Detroit. Only in a city can people so stupid breed and survive. The negroes in the projects and slums are so stupid and incapable that they cannot even raise their own young - who themselves are as lumpen as their parents.
When that device failes, as it is now in several socialist cities... I suspect a brutal war will erupt, based on race or some other lame excuse - and legions of idiots will become useful fools and pawns in a game designed expressly to cull them.

It never happens. The smartest and most imaginative people rarely have the resolve and stomach to fight and subdue the proles in order to secure their own existence and maximize their own mating abilities.
My theory is that, biologically speaking, having children, while critical to the group, is a net negative to the individual. That is why sex has to be such a powerful urge/instinct: it has to overcome the also powerful instinct for the individual's best interests - at least the near term ones. Maybe in the brightest the intellect overpowers the procreation urge to some extent with that realization. Just a thought.
