Sirens

"If men really were as misogynist as women claim, none of this would have ever happened. We would've just put them over our knee and given them a righteous paddling until we got our damn sammiches made exactly like we wanted 'em." - No Ma'am blog

"Sirens: (Greek singular: Σειρήν Seirēn; Greek plural: Σειρῆνες Seirēnes) were dangerous yet beautiful creatures, portrayed as femmes fatales who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island."

I had never seen the movie, Brother, Where Are Thou? until last week, and when I did, it made me smile.

The movie is based on Homer's epic poem, Odyssey (the first movie I saw based on it was The Warriors, which was about a street gang trying to make it home though hostile territory).

There is a scene in Brother where the three main characters run across what one correctly describes as "sirens." Two of them find the other gone, and the only thing left is an empty suit of clothes. He ends up back in prison until his friends bust him out, again.

The Manosphere knows nothing of sirens (think the movie Body Heat and James M Cain's novel, Double Indemnity). Obviously, men in the past knew a lot more about women than many men of today (read Proverbs in the Bible sometime).

Sirens? Femmes Fatales? What the hell are those? Never mind the fact that men have been writing about them for thousands of years.

The Manosphere tries to get around this problem by pretending "alphas" really exist, who they think are immune to such women. Good luck with that delusion.

Perhaps we disagree on definitions. Alpha males certainly DO exist; I know several. They are aggressive to be sure, but not cocky. They are competent, they can listen to others and act on what they hear, and they are focused and engaged in whatever they do. They are extremely pleasant men to be around for other men, and women turn to mush in their presence.

While you clearly understand the femme fatale, you seem to ignore the fact that they can only work their charms on stupid, week men as they do with the prisoners. The PUA's (or male sluts) and their type are just such men: what kind of idiot rolls in the hay with a woman he knows nothing about? AIDS/HIV? Angry/jealous boyfriends/husbands? Batshit crazy? Absolutely stupid consent laws and phoney rape accusations? Alphas are far, far to smart for that, let me assure you! No woman with any self respect will shag a man without knowing him either.

And that is the peril of the lesser self proclaimed experts of the manosphere: they embrace the femme fatale and open themselves up to abuse through weakness. This is why classical courtship arose the way it did. Today, as it has always been - men must know the women they mate with. There is no such thing as free love and the fella that doesn't understand that - is in for a world of hurt.

The Conehead films usually are spot-on. O Brother was first-rate too.

All guys also should see 'A Serious Man' by the Coens. Illustrates that the gynarchy very much was in place and in charge, even back in the Fifties.

Of course the Coneheads are Filthy Joos and are at the root of all human problems etc. But I guess we can suspend that conviction until they start making bad movies. After all it's a free country. :O)

I'm with Glen Filthie on this one. The presence of highly alluring women, "sirens" does not men that "Alpha" males do not exist.

The music is the star of "Brother". The adapted story line is just so-so. Angel Band, indeed.

There's this whole discussion and debate in the manosphere/MGTOW community about whether or not women are "evil." I prefer to say that women are flawed, just like men, but women have different tendencies. There are many men that have been badly hurt by women through bad relationships, marriages, divorce and such, that have concluded that women are indeed evil. Women can indeed be either nurturers or destroyers. But women, like men, are human, are capable of rational thought, and can decide how they want to behave and act. Unfortunately, modern western society actually encourages and incentivizes the worst of womens' behavior whether natural or learned, including divorce, false rape and domestic violence accusations rendering the man criminal and putting the man in jail (i.e., VAWA act), false paternity where the man has to pay for children that aren't his, and unreasonable alimony and child support payments, just to name a few.

'Today, as it has always been - men must know the women they mate with.'

Yup...that's why it should be with their wife and not some strange woman/women. Otherwise all you get is sirens, femme fatales, or more the most apt definition....the succubus.

The Manosphere conception of the "alpha" is that he is immune to women and what they do because he is so "aloof." That just makes me laugh.

BTW, the archetype of the Siren has been around for at least 2500 years, since close to beginning of written history, so it is clearly based on reality. I can't say the same for most of the concepts in the Manosphere.

Real life historical example of a so called alpha male falling for a siren type woman: Marcus Anthony and Cleopatra

Biblical reference to so called alpha male falling for a siren type woman: Samson and Delilah

Which is why I point out the Manosphere has no idea what an "alpha" is, because it's ignorant of history, not to mention the Bible.

Every seductress is a little different and most men are vulnerable to at least one kind of seduction.

To the examples given at 2:13 both of these women, especially Cleopatra were exceptional women. Delilah was basically a spy probably selected for her skills in the area and Samson vulnerability to her type (she was his taste)

I think the Russians called them Stable Girls , the stunning Anna Chapman was one of these ladies til she was caught and is a good example of what a moderate seductress can do with a weak willed man.

I'm reminded of a line from Dune (Princess Irulian here)

The Count, a dapper and ugly little man, brought a new slave-concubine to my father one day and I was dispatched by my mother to spy on the proceedings. All of us spied on my father as a matter of self-protection. One of the slave-concubines permitted my father under the Bene Gesserit-Guild agreement could not, of course, bear a Royal Successor, but the intrigues were constant and oppressive in their similarity. We became adept, my mother and sisters and I, at avoiding subtle instruments of death. It may seem a dreadful thing to say, but I'm not at all sure my father was innocent in all these attempts. A Royal Family is not like other families. Here was a new slave-concubine, then, red-haired like my father, willowy and graceful. She had a dancer's muscles, and her training obviously had included neuro-enticement. My father looked at her for a long time as she postured unclothed before him. Finally he said: "She is too beautiful. We will save her as a gift." You have no idea how much consternation this restraint created in the Royal Creche. Subtlety and self-control were, after all, the most deadly threats to us all.

That is the fictional Alpha in action. The real versions of these men are as few and far between as the true sirens.

Still most women today lack the higher grades of the female arts and will find a lot of those well practiced aloof males tough going. They are not invulnerable but less vulnerable especially to the unschooled women out there. The rare high end Alpha is basically going to be immune to their weak blandishments. High end men needed skilled women to seduce them.

Men can also learn to resist such enticements in the real world. Its a skill rarely learned since few men are ever seduced or in much danger from seduction and its time consuming to learn. It requires a lot of knowledge of self, of ones tastes and weaknesses and strong will. Its also hard to test since seduction is rare anyway. Most men will go an entire life without being seduced and these days with little effort can avoid the seductresses anyway

Women obviously don't encourage such skills as it limits their power and oddly the elite don't much favor it, Men without weakness are a threat to the social order as Herbert noted.

Two words, Bob: Bill Clinton.

He coerced interns to give him gummers (and almost certainly shagged a few others), lied about it under oath...and got a standing ovation for it from half the country. People would line up ten deep to vote for him again. Today he's so powerful he might even get his hag of a wife elected. Even by the immature definitions of the boys in the Manosphere ... Alphas do indeed exist. Look at Roosh...a contemptable little paki monkey - some crazed femcnut threw a beer at him in a nightclub, the little twat is actually suing her...and his fanboys wait on pins and needles for his next post.

As far as historical basis...I looked into that awhile back. The more credible Manospherians (our host may look in the mirror) - derive much of their principles from the Stoics: they embrace physical and mental self improvement, encourage mastery of the manly arts, and extoll manly virtues. They may not realize their principles descend from Ancient Rome and Greece, but there is ample historic precedent for them.

The problem of the Manosphere (in my scholarly opinion) is that it lacks maturity. It's loudest and most prominent advocates are in their 30s and early 40s. None have ever had any real contact with superior old world women. A few of 'em are actually fags. That would a bloody faggot know of manliness? Others are blatant women haters off a bad relationship.

It is all too easy to throw out the baby with the bath water with stuff like this . Chemotherapy is toxic...but it works like a hot damn on cancer...and anyone that denies that our socially engineered women are diseased...is living in denial.

Marc Anthony was a complete fuck up, not only did he piss off some serious higher ups, I read he was once pelted with rocks that called him the equivalent of pussy whipped.

'Two words, Bob: Bill Clinton.'

The only fantasy world that doesn't deal with reality that is greater than the Manosphere...is politics.

"Every seductress is a little different and most men are vulnerable to at least one kind of seduction."

Exactly. I have consistently fallen for intelligent, funny women. And I end up saying and doing stupid things. And yes, I am close to being a Stoic, which is why I sometimes quote Marcus Aurelius.

"Biblical reference to so called alpha male falling for a siren type woman: Samson and Delilah"

The Bible is full of good practical wisdom about women. Men, too.
