Three Things You Should Have

A library, a garden and a dog. Working in the garden and walking the dog are forms of meditation.

I have the internet and the e-reader instead of the library.

I personally need two dogs rather than just one.

Gardening? F that! Unless it is a productive veggie garden or outright crop farming requiring the work of a heavy tillers, balers, and machines - that's women's work. In my manly opinion, a fella does his best thinking AFTER a long day's work on the deck with the BBQ and a beer.

I'd add a gun to that list, for added peace of mind.

If you're not into gardening, have a few fruit trees and a grapevine. Much less maintenance.

I had to buy a dog just so the police would stop harassing me when I went for walks by myself. The only downside to this is that people now want to stop me and talk to me about my dog.

I wonder whether this "dangerous bachelor" phenomena is unique to me or if it's something more widespread?

Interesting observation. Of course, the internet is a library of sorts. But dogs are high maintenance for someone who isn't self employed.

Same as above Black Poison Soul. I have some grapevines and fruit trees. They take intelligence and a learning curve but not that much work. The right kind of women are impressed by this and that at least you are willing to get dirt under your fingernails.

some grapevin

And you can make wine from your own grapes.
