Also, early movies made about it were a patriotic way to display the dramatic nobility of the brave British men who decided to remain with the ship while their wives and kids hitched rides on the lifeboats. <br /><br />Of course, later movies wanted nothing to do with that sort of thing and turned it into Romeo and Juliet on the High Seas (with a doomed couple as the centerpiece of the action.) They threw bits of The Poseidon Adventure into the mix as well. They shouldn't have happened at all, but people were dying everywhere at the time.
